SCOUTING REPORTS
“A 37-goal scorer with a good Medicine Hat team. He handles the puck so well at full speed. His crouch style belies his 6-foot stature. He looks smaller out there on the ice, but he's not small in productiveness. How about this -- he moved from Long Beach to Minnesota's Shattuck-St. Mary's to Medicine Hat, Alberta, all in the space of three developmental junior years.”
- NHL Director of Central Scouting, E.J. McGuire

"Southern California speedster has great natural athletic ability and goal scorer's touch. Elite straight line speed makes him effective as forechecker in puck pursuit and results in lots of clean breakaways, but lacks lateral quickness. ... Terrific shooting touch and can pick corners with an accurate wrister while at full speed. Loves to go to straight to net and has knack or getting his stick on loose pucks near the crease. Doesn't stickhandle well enough to create for himself. ... Other than goal scoring instincts, we have nagging doubts about his hockey sense. Does not anticipate well or do much away from the puck. Bit of a hot dog, but has a good work ethic and also contributes on the PK."
- Red Line Report 2010 Draft Guide

"A very intelligent and determined player, Etem plays all situations and commits to whatever role he is in. Etem’s ability to rush down the boards is impressive, and although he hasn’t quite mastered the art of penetrating the middle off the rush, you can tell that it isn’t far off. He can fly under the radar at times due to his insistence to play the systems properly, but has proved to be an explosive and timely scoring threat."
- International Scouting Services 2010 NHL Draft Guide

"Usually he comes off the wing where he holds the puck wide, gets around the defenseman and cuts to the net. You can just get the sense when he's on the ice something is going to happen offensively."
- The Hockey News Draft Preview 2010

“Emerson is a great skater who opens up the ice real well. He is a real professional already. Everyday he prepares like a pro. His biggest strength is he wants to improve as a player. When you tell him something he is prepared to do it.”
- Medicine Hat Tigers head coach Willie Desjardins

"The California kid from Long Beach comes from a family of elite athletes and is arguably the fastest skater in the entire draft. With a hard, heavy shot that allows him to score off the rush from far out, it’s difficult to envision the Medicine Hat Tiger winger as anything but a mid-first round pick."

CONCLUSION
Fastest skater in the draft.  Plays in all situations.  Scores goals off the rush.  Great work ethic.  Local kid.  Sign me up for Emerson Etem.  He's trained in L.A. since he was 14 years old with NHL pros like Rob Blake and Wayne Simmonds.  And he's got the support of the entire '213 including Snoop Dogg.  Is there a better fit?

In all seriousness, the Kings are lacking a pure goal scorer in the system.  Etem says he models his game after Marian Gaborik but he sounds a bit more like Jarome Iginla, who likes to streak up the boards and score off the rush at full speed.  I think he could be a really nice fit in Los Angeles if he's still there at #19.  Not to mention all the press...
